Before You Invest…(Part 1)
 
Merry Sherman     It’s the middle of January and already the catalogs promoting Spring & Summer activities have begun to arrive…”How To Have a Perfect Garden”…”What To Wear”…”Where To Travel” etc…and while I too am having visions of summer, I know that in all probability, the worst of winter is yet to come…and with it, the stark reality that some heating systems will fail and some, beyond repair, will have to be replaced…an unexpected financial outlay that you could have well done without.

     I also realize that as a rule, furnaces do not fail in the summer (nor air conditioners in the winter) and that under the stress of inconvenience and discomfort, it is easy to make a bad matter worse by making poor choices. So our first word of caution is that if you find yourself in this unhappy position, don’t panic. Because a heating and air conditioning system is the most expensive appliance in your home. Treat it like an investment because that’s what it is!

     Secondly, it is possible that someone has unintentionally (or otherwise) made a faulty diagnosis. That’s why we offer a FREE 2nd Opinion. It works like this:

     When the heating contractor you called to repair your HVAC system says that a major component has to be replaced (or even that a new system must be installed), call us and we’ll give you a 2nd opinion absolutely FREE!

     If a quality heating and air conditioning system could be just wheeled into your home like a TV or refrigerator and plugged in, shopping by brand or price would be a great strategy. But there's a lot more to installing a quality heating and air conditioning system than just “plugging it in”.

     Part II of this series will introduce you to some of the “shopping basics” that go beyond (1) what brand? (2) what size? (3) how much?...things that will help you understand (and how to make sense of) the wide range of variables you may encounter with HVAC companies in the Tidewater area.

     I am sure you’ve heard the old bromide about making lemonade from lemons”. An old, inefficient furnace that has to be replaced could be a unique opportunity.  Don’t waste it.
