What
is "indoor" air pollution? (Part II)
|
We've
said it before but it bears repeating "If
you could see what you are breathing in your air, it would
scare you to death!"
First, some FACTS FROM THE
American Lung Association Health House® Program, March 2003
• Less
than 20 percent of Americans believe
that the air inside their homes is more polluted than the air
outdoors. However, the Environmental Protection Agency states
that levels of air pollution inside the home can be two to
five times higher - and occasionally up to 100 times higher
- than outdoor levels.
• More
than 70 percent of Americans have forced
air heating and/or central air in their homes. Yet nearly 50
percent do not change the filter in their heating/air conditioning
unit every 2 to 3 months as recommended. And 10 percent have
never replaced the filter in their heating/air conditioning
unit.
• Only
about 11 percent of Americans purchase
high efficiency furnace filters, despite the fact that high
efficiency filters can be more effective than standard fiberglass
filters in capturing pollen, pet dander, smoke and other potentially
harmful micro particles.
• Nearly
75 percent of Americans live with someone
who has allergies, asthma, emphysema or another respiratory
illness.
• Indoor
air pollution consists of gases, biological
contaminants, radon and particulates that can impair your health.
• Many
groups are especially susceptible to
the health effects of indoor pollutants. These include infants;
the very young; pregnant women; the elderly; and those with
allergies, asthma and other respiratory ailments.
Combining
innovative filtration and photocatalytic
oxidation, the Lennox PureAir™ system attacks odors and
chemical vapors throughout the home. Although the words "photocatalytic
oxidation" is not a household word, it is not a new process
as it is similar to the process used by the Department of Defense
to combat germ warfare.
What
is new is the availability for residential
use. Combining nature's most powerful air purifiers (ultraviolet
light, titanium dioxide catalyst, and hydroxyl radicals) the
Lennox PureAir™ system is an optimal air quality solution
for central heating and cooling systems.
This
Lennox Industry exclusive air purification technology
is the only single system to attack all three classes of indoor
contaminants:
(1) Particles
(pollen, dust mites, pet dander).
(2) Bioaerosols
(bacteria, viruses, molds, fungi).
(3) Odors/Chemical
(cooking smells, tobacco smoke, pet odors).
And every day, every
member of your family takes between 25,000
to 30,000 breaths …containing millions of particles
of dust, pollen, mildew, animal dander, lint, fungus, smoke and
bacteria.
Like
Jaguars, Lincolns and Cadillacs, the new PureAir™ Purification
System is not for everyone, even though the PureAir ™ Purification
Systems can clean the air in your home better than any other
single system you can buy. It's something you have to decide. The
reason we said it is not for everyone, is that it is
not inexpensive but neither is a Jaguar,
Lincoln or a Cadillac.
