Well, not necessarily…but one thing for sure, you rarely get more than you pay for. Just not in the cards…a business can not spend more than it makes…can not survive if it gives out $100 for every $50 it receives. It would be commercial suicide.
Many times we’ve wondered, if people will ever learn, that the real problem is not “that you get what you pay” for but to be sure you get as much as you pay for.
Consider summer preparation of air conditioners for example. Do you really believe that an accredited air conditioning company can (will) send a professional trained technician, in a $30,000 truck carrying $10,000 worth of parts and do a thorough job of getting your air conditioner ready for summer…and only charge you $49.95? As we’ve said many times before “Do The Math”! (45 minutes to get to the job; 1½ hrs to do the tune up; 45 minutes back to shop).
Our Spring “tune-up/clean” up program for air conditioners is a case in point. You can certainly buy a “tune-up” for a lot less money, but a close examination will reveal that you also get a lot less for your money too!
How do we know? We closely (and constantly) monitor all local advertising and public offers and we can say without fear of contradiction, that no local HVAC contractor advertises anything close to our 40 point “tune-up/clean-up” service.
We’ve noted before that most companies offer only 10-15 items to be checked and we have deridingly called them “el Cheapo offers”. We are so confident of the value we offer, that we publicly post on our website, where anyone and everyone can see, a detailed explanation of each of the 40 points and the benefits you derive.
If you pay a lot of money for something …a house…a car…a HDTV…or even an expensive dress or a suit of clothes…and get something of poor quality in return, you're going to be upset, right? If what you bought was not worth half of what you paid, you might even consider calling the BBB or at least telling all your friends, not to patronize that company.
Well, this type of thing is a daily occurrence in the HVAC business, but for some reason, the horror stories are rarely told and as a consequence, little, if anything is done about them. Why? Because most people don’t know any better. A tune-up is a tune-up, right?
Look at our 40 points (click here)…see which ones you think are not important if we are talking about your house, your air conditioner, your money. Here’s just one example, of an item frequently omitted from “el Cheapo” specials: “Verify Refrigerant charge”. Reason for omission (1) Time consuming (2) Technical skills required. Yet improper refrigerant levels have been found in numerous studies.
