In
our last newsletter we tried to prove that there
is merit in having your cooling system tuned up for the
coming summer. However, we did not mean to say that you
should not be cautious about who you get to do the “tuning
up” and find out exactly what they plan to do for
the money you pay them.
For
just as surely as the old refrain "April
showers bring May flowers", the hot, muggy days
of summer…July and August follow spring and
with the coming of spring, one special scam also
makes its presence known.
Taking
advantage of the fact that
most people understand the need
and the validity for mechanical
equipment with moving parts
to be serviced and maintained,
they begin their shrill cacophony,
promoting "Cooling System
Specials" for unbelievable
low prices: $29.95, $39.95 and
even $49.95 bargains. Bargains?
Right! We've said this many
times before and it bears repeating: "DO
THE MATH"!!!
Qualified
service technicians in
our area earn between $15-$25/hr
(if you know of one earning
less, please refer him to
us. We need all the help we
can get). Traffic conditions
mandate that at least 1 hour
be allowed for travel time.
It takes anywhere from 45
minutes to an hour and a half
to perform proper maintenance
on a system (at least it does
if they check the 40 points*
that we do).
Using
a minimum of 2 hours, (1
hour travel time; 1 hour to
check equipment and using
the lowest rate of pay ($15/hr),
the minimum cost would
be $30. Add to that "out
of pocket cost", the
expense of operating a $25,000
service van stocked with $10,000
worth of parts, materials
and tools to say nothing about
normal overhead like rent,
lights, gasoline, depreciation,
vehicle and liability insurance,
health insurance, unemployment
insurance, social security,
unemployment compensation,
telephone, radio, utilities,
uniforms, office supplies,
advertising, taxes and licenses,
employee benefits...well,
you get the idea…and
also why we reiterate "Caveat
Emptor" …let
the buyer beware! Just
do the math!
Do
you really believe that
any reputable company, trying
to make a profit in order
to stay in business, can only
charge $29.95/$39.95 UNLESS
THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN IS
ABLE TO "PERSUADE YOU
TO BUY SOMETHING? Voila! After
all, there are companies
around that even advertise
that "business is bad" or "we
need the work". Caveat
Emptor. Let
the buyer beware!
So
how can you distinguish between
the legitimate contractor and
the scammer BEFORE you
spend your money? Well, here
is one way. Find out EXACTLY
what they propose to do and
get it in writing! Don’t
be satisfied with someone telling
you “Oh, we do that to”.
Here’s
our proof that we offer
the area's most comprehensive
preventative maintenance service
available (40 points). See for
yourself, in writing, not only
the name of each of the 40 points
BUT the effect each point
has on the performance of
your system (and why you
should not settle for less)
by going to our website. Click
here. We believe we are
safe in saying, that no other
local contractor can match that
list!
We
also have an "early
seasonal discount" (mid
March – mid May) for
our customers, but it's for PURELY,
SELFISH REASONS. We hate
to give away so much money but
to date, haven't been able
to devise any other way to
properly prepare all the cooling
systems for our hundreds of
customers before the summer
sets in for earnest.
This
makes for both of us a "win-win" situation.
We win by getting you to
order early (and can do
more jobs)...you win, if
you order early by getting
a $135 value for a lot less
money (and you can save
even more if you order on
line) as you join hundreds
of others who every summer,
make Climatemakers their
contractor of choice.
If
you read our last newsletter, you
know that our seasonal discounts are effective
from 03/15/05 to 05/15/05 and strictly
limited. We again call your attention to
the sliding scale of discounts for early
registration. There are just 8 days
remaining when, you can obtain the
maximum discount, a
whopping 40%! So, you still have
time (but not much) to reserve the date
that is most convenient for you. And remember,
there is an extra discount when you make
your reservations on line.
On
line reservations can be
made by clicking
here . The cost of
the "check-up/tune-up" is
a small price to pay for superior
equipment performance that result
in lower energy bills and extended
life performance. Remember, THE
MAJOR CAUSE OF EQUIPMENT FAILURE
IS INADEQUATE MAINTENANCE.
Remember
Pogo: “We have met the enemy…and
he is us”. Why not do it
right now? Just click
