Summer cooling bills are never fun to contemplate. But in spite of your strongest resolves, when the daytime temperatures hover in the high 80’s or low 90’s, with corresponding high humidity levels…and the night time conditions are not much better…when faced with the choice of paying the bill or suffering all summer, most of us relent and just pay the bill!      However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do everything in your power to lower that “sticker shock” that comes from the utility company every month in the mail…for if there is one thing we are sure of, it is that over the years, energy costs will only increase. Here are several suggestions.      As you probably know by now, President Obama has signed the $787 billion stimulus bill into law.  The package of federal spending and tax cuts is designed to revive the economy and save millions of jobs. The bill has more than 1,000 pages but you don’t have to read them all to know the plan can help put extra dollars in your pocket at least 2 ways: TAX CREDITS TO MAKE YOUR HOME MORE ENERGY-EFFICIENT      For the rest of 2009, homeowners who replace old, inefficient furnaces and air conditioners with high energy-efficient systems to their homes can get a tax credit to cover 30 percent of the costs, up to a total of $1500!      In addition to the maximum Federal Tax credit of $1500, there are several other rebates available…and here is where some confusion exists. I.e., there are various rebates available depending on (1) brand (2) controls (Programmable thermostat) and type of system (Geothermal).      And it is not surprising, that everywhere you look these days, someone is advertising about some sort of “stimulus deal” for home improvements…that nearly always happens when large sums of money are involved. I.e., in our business (upgrading heating and cooling systems) figures ranging from $1500 to $5000 are being tossed about, sometimes with reckless abandonment.      Understandably, readers are torn between (a) unbelief (b) and missing out on “a good deal”…fearful of being “caught up in some marketing scheme or “missing out” on a real opportunity…and if the latter, why shouldn’t I take advantage of the opportunity to substantially reduce the one single item that contributes 45-55% of my ever increasing energy bill…not only for this year, but for every year from now on?      As always, Climatemakers customers know from experience, that they can rely on the firm’s 56 year old reputation, to sort out the real from the bogus.
