Protecting Your Investment (Part II)

Our last newsletter started a new series entitled “Protecting Your Investment” (click here to review). It is a follow up to the 6 part series published earlier in the year entitled “Before You Invest…” (Click here to review).

Merry ShermanIn the initial installment, we compared a HVAC system with a car, noting 2 things: (1) that all automobile manufacturers require periodic care and maintenance if performance and warranties are to be realized and (2) like automotive tune-ups, keeping your HVAC “tuned-up” is a critical necessity for optimum performance and to preserve its value.

Continuing that automotive comparison, if you were to get in your car and drive it for 2,500 hours at 55 miles per hour, you would put 137,500 miles on your odometer and if you changed the oil every 3000 miles as most manufacturers recommend, you would have changed the oil 45 times!

In our area, the average family “drives” their home comfort system more than 2,500 hours each year…and at full speed! With all that stress put on your comfort system, you can see why it’s a good idea to have your HVAC system tuned up at least twice (once for heating; once for cooling) a year…and just like your car, your HVAC system must be cared for throughout its life in order for it to continue keeping you comfortable inside your home efficiently and effectively…and that’s called “Preventative Maintenance”.

Before we discuss Preventative Maintenance, a brief review of the difference in Warranties and Preventative Maintenance may be in order

  1. A Manufacturer’s “Limited Warranty” covers specific parts (i.e. Compressor, coil, electronics, etc.); therefore, it is limited by the language in the warranty.

  2. An Extended Warranty. Extended warranties usually provide an additional 5 or 10 years of parts and labor coverage and are usually available from the manufacturer only at the time of the purchase of equipment.

3. Planned Service Agreements (PSA). Planned Service Agreements provides the maintenance required to (1) keep your warranty in effect (valid) and at the same time (2) prolongs the life of your heating and cooling equipment as well as maintaining peak performance of your system. By cleaning and checking the various components of your system on a regular basis, problems can be found and corrected before they become detrimental to your home comfort system.

Every equipment manufacturer recommends annual maintenance to ensure proper operation and to make sure your equipment gets the attention it needs year round, before an emergency situation arises. Here are just some of the benefits that you can expect from owning one of our Planned Service Agreements:

Energy Savings. Regular and proper maintenance keeps your equipment running as efficiently as possible, saving you energy.

Correction of Developing Problems. We can pinpoint and correct developing problems at the earliest, least expensive time, before equipment fails.

Lower Life Cycle Costs. Over the life of your equipment, you will experience lower total operating and maintenance costs with fewer disruptions.

Reduction in the Frequency of Capital Outlays. Longer life cycle for equipment exists because of preventive maintenance.

Specialized Testing. We will use some of the most technologically advanced equipment in the industry to test and service your equipment.

Preferred Discounts. 15% on labor and material should a service repair become necessary. Aside from any other benefit, this discount alone makes it a good investment.

Priority Response Time. Preferred customer scheduling if an emergency situation should arise.

No Worry. About when the next time your equipment needs maintenance service. We will have already scheduled the most comprehensive tune-ups available in our area and will do it at your convenience.

“The cost and inconvenience of most breakdowns can be avoided with proper maintenance…Preventative maintenance doesn’t cost…it pays”

And finally, please remember, if you have any questions about the HVAC system in your house; how we can be of better service to you, or about our web site, please email them to me. I'd like to hear from you...and if you’d like to hear from your government on this subject of energy, here’s a website I found last year that you might find of interest www.energyhog.org.
