These first seven years of the new millennium, have been the best ever in Climatemakers’s 54 year history. (They’ll probably be remembered as the “good old days” many years from now).
The trials of past years that caused so many sleepless nights…contractors going bankrupt leaving unpaid bills…a devastating fire…water moratoriums…high interest rates (21%)…recessions and inflation…from the advantage of hindsight… seem almost like child’s play as we try to peer into the future to get a glimpse of what the next decade will be like…for we believe changes loom, that may threaten the very existence of many companies if they fail to heed the warning signs.
Nowhere is this more obvious than on the Internet. Small companies, not realizing the power of the web, will fall into obscurity and fail, as more and more people become better informed and realize not only the convenience and lower costs that come from comparing and shopping “on-line” but try to learn how to cope with ever rising fuel costs, even while trying to improve the indoor comfort in their homes.
Gone are the days when a furnace or air conditioner alone provides optimum comfort and a cutting edge HVAC contractor like Climatemakers, is now an “Indoor Air Quality Design Specialist”!
For knowledgeable people are now aware, that the indoor climate irritants that partially stem from today's tighter built homes, with their use of new plastics and other materials, need no longer be tolerated. Homeowners now are not only highly cognizant of health concerns that can be exacerbated by indoor pollutants but know that everything from allergies to window condensation can be reduced, and in many cases eradicated, with a properly designed indoor air quality system.
We feel, that our 54 years of experience, eminently qualifies us for what’s to come and that we will be one of the survivors in the coming “Internet Age”. Why? If we had to sum it up in one word, we would say “resourcefulness”. Webster defines that as: “comprehension, responsive, sensitive”. We would add at least 2 more: agile and nimble. Look at the record:
Established in the midst of the post war building boom (1953), Climatemakers in a few short years, soon became one of the largest HVAC new construction sub contractors in the area. Then, as new construction began to slow and competition for the smaller pie increased, profit margins became almost non existent. Even at the cost of severe downsizing, the realization that a shift in focus was necessary. To us, the most natural target was the “add-on-replacement-service” market.
Here we believed we could build a niche by establishing rapport with home owners who were dissatisfied with their “builder model” equipment or who wanted to experience the new convenience of “air conditioning”. There was also the realization that a huge market existed for dependable service and repairs for the thousands of hvac installations made by new construction subcontractors, who were neither equipped nor interested in servicing existing installations. Our motto in those days (and still is) has served us well. When it comes to customer service:
“No Compromises”.
“No Comparison”. |
In this market, Climatemakers has pioneered many “firsts”. First to have 2 way radios in all vehicles (now replaced by cell phones); first to have air conditioned service vehicles; first to be completely computerized with customer history available at the click of a key, to name just a few.
And it has paid off. Nearly 10,000 people for each of the past 3 years, has made Climatemakers their trusted source for the solution to any type of residential HVAC problem. Note the stress on “residential”. We have not even tried to move into other areas; not even commercial HVAC.
