It’s
Not Where You Live, But How You Live… (Part
6)
(Zoning)
|
To paraphrase
an old saying, inside every house, there's
a healthy, comfortable house waiting to come out. If you've
ever visited our website, you've seen the little icon of
what we call a "Happy House" with a big smile on
its face. We've devoted over a half century trying to make "happy
houses" and this final installment (6) concludes another
effort in that direction.
Parts
1-5, established the fact that "where
you live" is usually a matter of economics while "how
you live" is determined primarily from recognizing
the significance of, and the choices one makes from information
and knowledge available. Nowhere
is this more obvious than inside your home.
We further
promised to examine in detail, the 6
basic components that are required to live in a Controlled
Comfort Environment. Parts
2, 3, 4 & 5 dealt specifically with adding heat
(heating), removing heat (cooling),
controlling moisture (humidity)
and air quality inside your
home. Part (6) examines the control of the
air in your home.
Before
the event of electricity (which gave
us among other things cheap, convenient lighting) people
used small lamps to light their houses and would carry them
from room to room as needed. Now we have a variety of lights
in different rooms, each controlled with its own switch to
be turned on as needed. Besides being convenient, we don't
need to waste electricity lighting the whole house at one
time.
Zoning
your HVAC system can perform similar
wonders in that you no longer have to heat or cool the whole
house at the same time. Nor do you need to be inconvenienced
with some rooms that are too hot (or too cold) nor is it
necessary to pay for heating or cooling rooms you rarely
use or need. Now you can easily and economically divide your
house into sleeping areas, living areas, playroom area, office
use, guest areas or any other configuration.
Each
zone, combined with its own programmable
thermostat, can satisfy any life style or comfort needs with
precise control, heating or cooling specific
areas at specific times to specific
temperatures. No more heating or cooling the whole
house when you're just using 2 or 3 rooms…in 2 story
houses, no more hot bedrooms in summer or cold activity rooms
in the winter…no more paying for heating and cooling
when you are away from home whether it is for 4 hours or
4 weeks.
