HOT-COLD
(Part II)

A Phone Number That Can Change Your Life(style)

Visualize if you can, the sensual pleasure you would experience, if as you walked from room to room in your house, the temperature of the air exactly matched your desire from the bathroom upstairs to the family room in the basement.

With just the right amount of moisture content and almost antiseptically clean, the knowledge that your "inside environment" was being produced more efficiently (read economically) than ever before, resulting in lower utility bills, only enhances your sense of well being. Sensational!

Any discussion about changing the lifestyle within your home, must begin by keeping you, the homeowner, aware of what is available in Indoor Air Quality and what you should expect (demand?) from your HVAC contractor.

This lack of consumer awareness (and the reluctance of HVAC contractors to market higher-priced equipment) is the primary reason the air inside so many homes today is both unsatisfactory and unhealthy. We continue that discussion today, focusing on the heating system, which in our area is the heart of a "Total Indoor Comfort System".

Some heating systems less than 10 years old for example, have efficiencies in the range of 56% to 70%. Times have changed and equipment dramatically improved. Some of today's heating systems can achieve efficiencies as high as 97%, converting nearly all the fuel to useable energy.

These condensing furnaces (with efficiencies over 90 percent) offer the most energy savings. These furnaces achieve their high AFUE ratings by sending flue gases through a secondary heat exchanger, where heat formerly wasted, is now converted to usable energy for your home.

Remaining flue gases are then exhausted outdoors through a special plastic-type vent pipe inserted through the wall of the home. This "direct-vent" piping configuration also draws in outside air for combustion, eliminating the old method of using indoor air for the process. Result: Infiltration is reduced ---added, energy savings.

But energy efficiency is not the only thing that has changed in the new systems. In older furnaces and even in many standard central heating and cooling systems sold today, the blower runs at one speed, which means the system is either "on or off".

Variable speed blowers use control technology that automatically changes blower speed based on your home's heating and cooling requirements. It starts slowly…gradually increasing speed up to the maximum if needed…instead of coming on at full capacity all at once. It is estimated that with this feature, the lowest blower speeds are used 80% of the time. Result: The dual advantage of more comfort at less cost.

Variable-capacity furnaces, when combined with a variable speed blower, provide the ultimate combination of comfort, efficiency and quiet performance. Variable capacity operation means consistent indoor temperatures with a nearly continuous gentle flow of heated air.

By monitoring your home's comfort needs and automatically adjusting changes in furnace output and blower speed, the sudden blast of air you feel with a one-speed "on-off" system is eliminated. All the while, the system running at reduced speeds most of the time, eliminates noisy start up, reduces wear and tear on the fan and motor, resulting in a substantial reduction in operating costs.

Next time, we will discuss in detail, how high technology cooling systems (the second part of a "Climatemakers Total Comfort System") can improve your lifestyle and how easily they can be yours. Until then, if you would like to see an integrated system live, click here.

     LAST CALL:

There are still 5 days remaining to take advantage of our Annual Fall Heating System 32 Point, "Tune Up-Check-Up". If you act promptly, you can still get the 20% discount and reserve the date that is most convenient for you. And remember, there is an extra discount when you make your reservations on-line.

If you would like to see the details and benefits of each of the 32 points, click here.

On line reservations are easily made by clicking here. The cost of the "check-up/tune-up" is a small price to pay for superior equipment performance that results in lower energy bills and extended life performance. Remember, THE MAJOR CAUSE OF EQUIPMENT FAILURE IS INADEQUATE MAINTENANCE.
