The Ultimate HVAC System (Part I)

With the sharp spike in home heating costs, I am asked more often than ever before “which is the best HVAC system available in today’s market”. Well, the answer is of course “there’s really no best system”. Obviously, if one system could be proven to be “the best”, no one would want any other.

Merry Sherman     Different people have different requirements…and we always offer this caveat before attempting to answer the question by stating “that the worst system made, properly installed, is better than the best system made, improperly installed”.

I do know this…I, for one, would not be satisfied with a system that just kept the cold out in winter and that just provided some relief from the heat of summer. For I know that in addition to providing relief from the outside weather conditions, a
n ideal HVAC system can, by the use of a programmable thermostat and other controls, sanitize the air, control the moisture in the air and with the use of zoning if necessary, eliminate unwarranted hot and cold spots throughout the house.

Having said all that, my definition of the ultimate system… one that can provide maximum humidification as well as dehumidification, energy efficiency, reasonable initial and repair expenses and improved Indoor Air Quality follows, but first, this word of caution: Just as a Cadillac or Lincoln is not for everyone, neither is this “top of the line” system. Here we go:

Gas Furnace and Air Conditioner.

The Lennox Model G61V gas furnace, with a Limited Lifetime Warranty on the heat exchanger and a 5-Year limited warranty on all other covered components, is without doubt, one of the finest furnaces ever manufactured.  Click here for more information.

It’s “2 stage burner” opperates with an almost unbelievable 94.1% efficiency rating and combined with it’s variable speed blower, enables the system to run at low speed about 80% of the time, precisely controlling a consistent flow of warm air throughout your home. A 94.1% AFUE will save you hundreds of dollars each year, compared to standard furnaces.

The Lennox Model XC21 air conditoner with it’s 2 speed compressor, has an equally outstanding 20.5 SEER rating which is not only the highest in the industry but nearly double the efficiency of most units currently in service. Using the new R410 refrigerant, it is extremely environmental friendly.  Click here for more information.

A matching CX 34 evaporator coil completes this unparalleled heating/cooling system but as I opined in the beginning, just providing heating and cooling, no matter how wonderful, is not enough.

No home is immune to air quality problems. New homes tend to have higher concentrations of chemicals, and older homes are breeding grounds for mold and mildew. To combat the growing problem of household air pollution, Lennox Industries has introduced the PureAir™ air purification system, a first-of-its-kind product to improve indoor air quality.

This recent addition to the Dave Lennox Signature™ Collection and Healthy Climate™ product lines, cleans the air inside homes better than any other system available for purchase according to independent test results. It’s a unique indoor air quality system that attacks all three classes of indoor air contaminants — particles, bio aerosols and odors/chemical vapors.

Dry air in your home can make your nose and throat dry and cause or aggravate other respiratory ailments. The new Lennox Healthy Climate humidifier adds just the right amount of moisture necessary to make your home feel really comfortable, while at the same time protecting it from the damage dry air can cause. This saves energy and creates a healthier home environment.

Well, there you have it…my dream heating and cooling system. Notice my emphasis on the word “system”…because it’d only when you match Lennox’s 94.1 high efficiency furnace with Lennox’s XC21 unparallel air conditioner with it’s CX34 coil and then add Lennox’s Signature programmable thermostat; the Healthy Climate PureAir™ air purification system; the Healthy Climate Humidifier, you know that you have  equipment and components…made up of many individual parts...yet, designed and engineered to work together to increase comfort and performance by controlling humidity levels and enhancing Indoor Air Quality… a perfectly balanced system. Click here for detailed information on IAQ products.

Next time, I’ll give you the specifications of what I think is, in these times of uncertain energy supply and price fluctuations, an even more exciting concept of the ultimate HVAC system. It’s called A Dual Fuel system.
