With A Zoned System, You Can Control The Temperature:

  • By Room
  • Two Zone
  • By Floor
  • Four Zone
  • By Area
  • By The Way You Live

Zoning

In some houses, due to the design, it is not possible for one thermostat to be adjusted to provide ideal temperature conditions for every room in the house. Unfortunately, that’s how the temperature is controlled in most houses, rarely creating “ideal comfort conditions” throughout the entire house at any given time.

For example, in a simple 2 story house, optimum temperatures would have the living area (usually located on the first floor) warmer than the sleeping area (usually located on the second floor).

With one thermostat, the laws of physics works against you as the natural tendency is for warm air to rise in the winter which makes the second floor (sleeping area) warmer than the 1st floor (living area). Conversely, in the summer, cold air falls so that the sleeping area is always warmer than the living area. Just the opposite of what is desired.

Imbalance of temperatures are not confined to just 2 story houses. A long, one story house, with bedrooms at one end and the living area at the other, presents similar problems.

There are several ways to correct this imbalance. The most desirable way is to have 2 (or more) systems, each with it’s own independent thermostat, to serve specific areas. This solution to an annoying problem is incorporated in the design of many new homes today .

However, multiple systems cost much more than one system (even in new homes) and can be much more expensive (and sometimes physically impossible to install) in existing homes.

If you’re tired of being too hot or too cold or constantly raising or lowering your thermostat, zoning may be the answer. Zoning divides your house into areas with common heating and cooling requirements and controls each of them with its own separate thermostat.

Installing a “zoning system” to control and regulate the airflow and temperature not only allows you to create “indoor comfort” conditions when and where you need it but also provides energy savings that you can take to the bank as you no longer have to heat or cool the whole house to get one room comfortable.
